October 26, 1944 Married 3

After Graduation I married Joe Blythe and we had three children, Robin (deceased), Shevelle, and Joe Jr.. We bought a home in Granger. Back in 1967 it was out in the middle of nowhere. We lived there until Joe was killed in 1979. A year after that the kids and I were not coping well with the tragedy, so we moved to Sevier, where I had lived until 1956. I had lots of family there and it’s a very small town. Mostly my relatives. As it turned out it was the best thing we could have done.

In 1981, along with my parents, built the Flying “U” Country Store, RV Park and Campground in Joseph. We are still running it. We celebrated our 30 year anniversary in July of 2011. We threw a big party for all of our long time customers, friends, and family.

There is nothing like running a country store in a small town. You are required to know everything, like where someone’s wife or husband went, where their kids are, or have we seen their dog. Where the ambulance went. They say we are the State Bank of Joseph. I really should have kept a diary, it would have been a best seller. We have met people from all over the world, even places I have never heard of. The scary part is that we usually do know what ever the person needs to know. I hope to run the store for many more years.

I married Gary Nielson in 1983. He had been a long time friend. He came with two children Bob and Janet. We have now been married 29 years .

We have 12 grandkids and 7 great-grandkids with two more on the way. If I had known how much fun it was to be a grandparent, I’d have skipped the Mom part. However, everyone tells me that’s not how it works, you have to be the parent first.

It’s like the saying goes “Grandchildren are God’s reward for not killing your kids”

LIFE HAS BEEN GOOD, A BUMP OR TWO ALONG THE WAY, BUT GOOD.

After high school I married my high school sweetheart, Gloria Mallory.  I attended the University of Utah for one year then got accepted into the School of X-Ray Technology at Salt Lake County General Hospital.  I graduated from there after two years and became a registered X-Ray Technologist.  We moved to Logan, UT where I worked at the Logan Hospital for one year.  I was then offered a position as Assistant Chief Technologist at Utah Valley Hospital.  While living in Orem we had three children, two boys and one girl.  After five years at the hospital I began working as a lab and X-Ray tech at a large internal medical clinic where I worked for seven years.  We decided we wanted to move back to the Salt Lake area and I opened my own private X-Ray office called Stanbrook Radiology.  I also had my own thermography business called Wasatch Thermography and a medical supply business called Wasatch Bio-Tec.  After owning my businesses for 12 years I went to work for the State of Utah at the Utah State Prison in their X-Ray and lab department.  I retired from the state at age 62 and have been retired since.  My wife and I are now traveling, playing golf and enjoying our seven wonderful grandchildren who all live close by.

March 23, 1944 Married 2
I was shocked to learn that I was missing in action.  I'm alive and well and still living in Midland Texas.  Like the rest of you, I can't believe it's been 50 years!  I could write a book on everything that's happened the last 50 years but here's quick summation.
After graduating from the U of U, I taught high school English.  I eventually went to work for the new Salt Lake Hilton  which is how I got to Midland Tx.  Came with my boss to open another new Hilton here in 1976 and have been ever since.  Met my husband shortly after moving here and have been married 30 years.  Have two beautiful step daughters and three perfect grandchildren.
My husband is the oil and gas business and we've been on the boom and bust roller coaster of the oil cycle. It's booming right now!
Like all good Texans, I learned to play golf which has become and obsession.  My other favorite hobby is needlepoint....go figure!
Now for the bad news.  My husband has stage 4 cancer but it doing quite well right now.  I hope I can make it to the reunion.  Would love see "yall"!!!

November 26, 1943 Retired Teacher Married 2
Following high school, I attended the U of U and
graduated in elementary education.

While at Granite I met Paul Olsen (Class of ’61) who later became my husband.  Girls seem to be our specialty.  We have 2 daughters and 3 granddaughters.

After teaching for 28 years, I retired in 2005.  Paul and I still stay busy with family and serving in the Salt Lake Temple.

To the surprise of many, we have been going to BYU football games for 40 years.  Occasionally we travel to away games and enjoy other trips.

Through the years I’ve increased my enjoyment for technology.  With my new iMac and Nikon camera, I spend way too much time on the computer creating memories of our travels and grandkids.  Blogging for recipes and ideas has become a new interest.

July 27, 1944 Bookkeeper Married 3

After high school I took accounting class and went to work in Salt Lake. A few years later I met my husband Van. We then moved to Bellingham, Washington, where we raised our three daughters. I went back to work for a grocery chain as accountant when my youngest started school.  I  am now semi retired and loving it. We have 5 grandsons from 24 years old to 2 years old, and one beautiful grandaughter that is 4 years old.
Washington has been very good to us, but we always look forward to the trek back home to Salt Lake. Since I have never been able to attend a class reunion I am very anxious and excited to see everyone.

Dear Classmates:

Fifty Years - WOW!

After High School, I attended the College of Southern Utah for two years.  I also played baseball there.  We had great success;  in 1963 we went to the National Finals of Junior Colleges.  I married my first wife (Margaret) in 1964 and had two children:  A girl - Allison - and a boy - Christian.  Allison became a Registered Nurse and Christian is an Engineer for Apple Computers.

I went back to College in 1969 at Weber State.  My family and I moved to California in 1972, where I worked for the County of Santa Clara for 6 years and for the City and County of San Francisco for 18 years.  I also worked for many years for two non-profit organizations dedicated to vocational employment training for low income people and held the positions of Employment and Training Manager and Deputy Director.

I am now retired and live in San Jose, CA.  I like it here!  My second wife and I have been together for 36 years; her name is Consuelo.

I wish you all well; enjoy the reunion.  I am sorry I cannot be there.

John Paez
