Hi Everyone. I am a recently discovered lost Granitian. It has been wonderful to read alll your abbreviated life stories. Hopefully there are many happy tomorrows ahead. What a decade the 60's were! Any societal disturbance today seems like mere child's play compared to those turbulent times. As for me, I married a beautiful Weber High cheer leader class of '62. We have 6 six children and 20 grandchildren. I have been dabbling in the insurance industry for 40 years. Now that we are in a rural area, I finally have access to enough ground to satiate my gardening desires. Thanks to everyone who knew me for your friendship during a rough couple of years in "61 & '62. ( I was a transfer from Murray High and the transition from a small school to a large one was a little intimidating). You made me feel welcome and I am thrilled with all of your successes. May we all just continue to live each day joyfully even as we grow closer to a new and exciting portal. Good luck to all!! |

After graduating from Granite High School, I served in the Army Reserve training at Fort Ord, California for six months active duty. I then served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to Taiwan where I served for two-and-a-half years learning the Mandarin Chinese language. Following my mission, I went to work for the Mountain Bell Telephone Company in Salt Lake City, then worked at Hill Air force base for five years. We moved to Astoria, Oregon where I learned the painting business from an uncle and painted historic homes. While in Astoria I was a member of the Astoria Historic Restoration Committee. I started my own painting business there. In 1978 we moved to St. George (Ivins, Utah) and have lived here ever since. My business, Dennis Hancey Painting, Inc., has painted the St. George Temple interior and exterior for over 30 years. We have painted many LDS church buildings and Stake centers, schools, banks, markets, and many other commercial buildings as well as houses. One interesting note, I was hired as 2nd Unit Painter for the Hollywood James Bond movie "Octopussy". I painted the airplane that they crashed over the Hurricane Mesa, along with other props. It was a fun experience. I married a wonderful women, Phyllis Anderson, and we have 5 children, 15 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild. We have been married for 44 years. I have always been active in the LDS church and served in many teaching and leadership positions. I belong to the Southern Utah Heritage choir and have been on tours with them to England, Scotland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, China, Washington D.C., and several other places in the U.S. We are planning a trip to Ireland with the choir in 2013. |
